My name is Nia Ortega, and I’m a 2027 graduate at Downers Grove South High School in Illinois, where I compete in both track and cross country. I specialize in the 3200m (PR: 10:41, 6th at Illinois State) and the mile (PR: 5:07), and have also gone to State for Cross Country. Academically, I maintain a 3.9–4.2 weighted GPA while taking AP and honors classes. This upcoming season, I’m aiming to run sub-10:30 in the 3200, break 5:00 in the mile and improve my Cross Country time of 18 flat by a minute.

I bring a competitive mindset, consistent work ethic, and a team-first mentality to every practice and race. As an athlete, I’m known for my mental toughness and ability to push through high-pressure situations. Outside of running, I’m a summer lifeguard and active community volunteer, which has helped shape me into a disciplined and responsible student-athlete. I want to contribute not just to a strong program, but to a university that values well-rounded, driven individuals.
