My name is Sofia Cotroneo and I will be graduating from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois in May of 2027. I am a driven and passionate athlete who values self belief, discipline, and consistent growth. Through my year round training, including lifting, technique work, proper fueling, and mental toughness, I have made significant progress in my events. This indoor season, I improved my triple jump by over a meter from last outdoor season, jumping a competitive mark of 11.97m. My long jump has also improved, from 4.97m last indoor season to 5.40m. I’ve also improved my speed. I have lowered my 200m time from 28.68 seconds as a sophomore to 26.85 seconds as a junior this indoor season.  

My goals this outdoor season are to jump over 40 feet in triple jump, jump 19 feet for long jump, and run a sub 26 second 200m. I’m especially determined to win a state title in the triple jump and to medal at outdoor nationals. I approach these goals with a focused mindset, consistency and a commitment to daily improvement.  

Academically, I have a 4.54 GPA while taking honors and AP classes, and I plan to continue taking challenging classes next year. I’ve been successful in balancing my academics along with focus on my training.  

Beyond track and field, I am dedicated to playing the piano, which I’ve been playing since I was six years old. I perform in two recitals each year and have also tutored younger students, which has strengthened my patience, leadership, and ability to communicate effectively. These qualities translate directly into my athletics and academics. As a teammate, I bring encouragement  and a strong work ethic to every practice and meet, and I’m excited to continue growing both as a student and as an  athlete.
