My name is Beatrix Gilson, class of 2023, and I run cross country and track with my team at New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois. Prior to cross country, I enjoyed competitive cheerleading freshman and sophomore year as a member of the Varsity squad. During cheer, my coach noticed during our short track workouts that running seemed to come very naturally to me. This prompted her to speak to the head cross country coach about potentially adding me to their roster.

I’ve always loved to run. It brings me great joy and peace. The opportunity to join the cross country team this year with potential talent in the sport was an exhilarating one. After a great inaugural season with my team, with PRs of 17:33 and a second place finish at the Peoria Race To The Finish, I am extremely excited for the track and field season to come. Along with running, I have always been very passionate about going into a future in pre-med. When I was 12, I became fascinated with medical textbooks and autobiographies. This, along with other factors, propelled my curiosity about studying medicine. Academics are very important to me, and I take pride in my work. I always treat school as a priority. 

I am building the upcoming year based on racing, contributing to my team, and vigorously studying. I cherish working with others, and building relationships. Supporting others and cheering them on as they succeed is part of who I am as an individual. I have great respect for my coaches, who help me learn, practice, sharpen, and execute my running skills.
