My name is Fynn Bright. I am in the Class of 2024 and attend Champaign Central High School in Champaign, Illinois. During my athletic career at CHS I was able to hold a varsity spot in XC, Track and Swim every year that I participated. Through hard work and dedication I was able to improve my 1600m time by 28 seconds and my 3200m time by 54 seconds from sophomore to junior year. My PBs sit as follows: 4:24 in the 1600m, 9:39 in the 3200m and 1:58 in the 800m. I was also fortunate to be the anchor on a team with other very accomplished runners. As a team we won the 4x800m 2A Indoor State race, and placed 6th during the Outdoor State Championship. This year showed great success but I believe there is a lot more I can accomplish such as improving my XC and Track times, overall maturity and mentality. My goals for my senior year include sub 14:30 for 3 miles, sub 9:15 for 3200m, sub 4:15 for 1600m, and sub 1:55 for 800m. I can’t wait for one last season with my team and I am excited to see where this road of hard work will take me.

The main part of my high school career is academics, and I am proud to say that I have worked hard since the beginning to maintain a high GPA. With 12 AP/Accelerated classes I was able to maintain a 3.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale and a weighted 4.407 GPA on a 5.0 scale. I like to live by what my coach always tells me, which is putting the student before the athlete. Without hard work in the classroom, I would not be eligible to participate in what I love to do most, which is to run, and be around all of the people that I have built strong friendships with over the last few years.

I have a special interest in pursuing business as a career. As an extracurricular activity, I built and captained the “CHS Business” team during the Wharton Global High School Investment Competition. My team of 5 placed in the top 200 out of 4,000 international teams. Outside of the classroom I have worked as a lifeguard at the local pool for the past two years. This job has taught me very important life lessons such as how to handle stress, be a team player, problem solving skills and how to have a flexible mind.

I will try my hardest to make senior year my best one yet and finish high school with a bang. I will work towards raising my GPA, and I can’t wait to work towards the listed running times. I know that there will be adversity along the way but I am ready to receive it and push my way through it.
