I am Gavin O’Connor and I run cross country and track for Brother Rice High School in Illinois. I am in the class of 2025. Before I got to high school, I had never really trained or competed in any races. I have continued to improve throughout my time in high school and currently have personal bests of 15:13.3 in the 3 mile, 9:28 in the 3200m, and 4:32.07 in the 1600m. Academically, I have taken on a rigorous course load of AP and honors classes. I have obtained a 4.72 weighted GPA, as well as a 35 on the ACT. In my junior year track season, I am hoping to keep making significant progress by running 9:25 in the 3200m and the state qualifying standard of 4:23 in the 1600m. 

I strive for excellence and enjoy taking on challenges, both academically and athletically. I value consistency within training and building solid foundations during the offseason. I aim to connect with my teammates and create a positive team environment. I plan on majoring in engineering and have pursued my interest by taking engineering courses. At my school, I am involved in several other school programs such as the hockey team, math team, and National Honor Society as a junior officer.  

I am looking forward to taking this next step in my life and am committed to taking every day as a chance to improve.
