My name is Glenn Collins, an incoming senior that runs track and cross country at Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto, Illinois (Class of 2027). Before running 1:52.53 in the 800 at the state meet and becoming All-state, running was not always my passion. I played a variety of sports including football, lacrosse, wrestling, and a lot more. Starting cross country for the first time my freshman year, I struggled enjoying it and finished with a PR of 20:50 for 3 miles. I never really took any of it seriously until sophomore year track where I had a breakout season and won my sectional in the 800 in 1:57.47. Throughout my junior year cross country season, I learned to love the sport and everything it has to offer. My teammates became my best friends and I enjoyed practicing every day while setting goals along the way. I ended my season at the IHSA 2A XC state meet in 15:47. Going into track season, I knew I was capable of so much more. And I had my best season yet, from being consistent to the last three meets achieving personal bests and finishing with the 1:52.53 at the state meet, placing me 4th. I am proud of what I’ve done with this past season, and excited for what’s to come. Now moving forward, I have very high ambitions for my senior year, both in cross country and track. Wanting to achieve All-State in cross country and go into the 1:50s or break the barrier in the 800m while improving my other events across the season. In addition, I will be pushing my teammates and guiding them as a leader of the team.

Inside the classroom, I am looking to do the same and improve myself the best I can. With a 3.87 unweighted GPA, I will be taking many honors courses in my senior year. I am working at a car wash over the summer as well. I have been very interested with self-improvement this year, and running has been a big part of that, ultimately making me a better person.
