My name is Henry McMurry. I run track and cross country at Mahomet-Seymour High School in Illinois. I have always loved to run, and I have only gotten more competitive as I have gotten older. This last fall I trained hard and built my 6’4” frame to run a PR of 14:55 at the Illinois Class 2A state meet. During my sophomore year track season, I ran 9:53 In the 3200m and 4:42 in the 1600m. In my upcoming Junior track season, I have set goals to run 9:20 in the 3200m and 4:20 in the 1600m, as well as run sub 2:00 in the 800m. Outside of track and cross country, I have pushed myself academically to build a 4.78 weighted GPA while taking primarily honors and AP classes. I currently have a 30 on the ACT after my first attempt and plan to improve that score.  

From the time I joined the school’s team in junior high, and through today, I have always done my best to lead with a great attitude and perform to the best of my ability. Our cross country and distance track running team has a bond that not many other athletic teams can claim. I am looking to continue my running career at a college where teammates are more like brothers, and where I can encourage others and be encouraged. Outside of running, I enjoy volunteering with my school’s interact club, which allows us opportunities to help others in the community. I also love other sports and spend time as one of my school’s play-by-play announcers for basketball games and work as a lifeguard in the summers.
