Jack Flood

2024 RHP from New Trier HS

My name is Jack Flood and I am a future 2024 graduate from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois.  I am currently 6’1” tall and weigh 190 pounds.  I am a right-handed pitcher with a three-quarter arm slot topping out at 83 mph.  I’ve been told my  four seam fastball has a high spin rate, because of this the ball will appear to rise and is harder to square up.  My curveball also has a very high spin rate and has great movement.

As a freshman, I played outfield and pitched for the New Trier High School freshman team.  As a sophomore, I played both positions on the JV team.  I am currently focused on pitching at the Varsity level.  In addition to the New Trier baseball team, I played for the Wilmette Waves in 2022.  In 2023 I will be pitching for the Cangelosi Sparks North team based in Bensenville, IL.

Over the past year, I started training with a personal trainer at the Chicago Sports Institute in Northfield, IL with the specific goal to add strength and explosive power tailored for baseball.  During that timeframe, I have grown over an inch and increased my weight by almost 25 pounds.  Most importantly, my strength metrics have all improved.  For example, I have increased my vertical leap from 27” to 30” during that timeframe.  My increased leg strength and flexibility have resulted in substantial gains in my pitching velocity, which has increased from 77 mph to 84 mph.  I continue to train at the Chicago Sports Institute, independent of all other team related training.

At New Trier High School, I have a 4.2 GPA.  My GPA has gone up each semester over the last 2+ years.  I am taking a rigorous science path of Physics-Chemistry-Biology over the first three years called PCB unique to New Trier and continue to challenge myself with higher level classes as I prepare for the demands of college academics.  Outside of school, I am a “Buddy” with the Wilmette Baseball Association Buddy Baseball program where we help children & teens with various learning and/or physical disabilities play fun games of baseball.  I help coach 3rd-4th grade youth baseball during the fall season each year and I have been an active participate in DECA, a business club at New Trier, over the last 2 years.

As a pitcher, one of my greatest strengths is my composure under pressure.  I do not easily get rattled, and I continue to throw strikes.  As a Freshman, I was asked to start the first game of the year.  I am comfortable as a starting pitcher, but the majority of my innings have been in difficult relief situations.  My ERA for my entire New Trier career to date is less than 1.0.  Last summer, my ERA pitching for the Wilmette Waves was 0.82. For more information, please email me at jackflood2024@gmail.com.
