My name is Nate Wehner, and I am a class of 2024 track and cross country student-athlete at Highland Park High School in Illinois. Entering my junior track season, I have personal bests of 4:23.99 in the 1600m, 9:23 at the 2-mile distance, and 14:40 at the cross country 3 mile distance. I currently hold 5 freshman and 5 sophomore records at my high school, in addition to holding the overall indoor 2-mile record. Academics are also a top priority for me. To date, I have attained a weighted GPA of 4.75 out of 4.0 (4.0/4.0 unweighted) and a 1530 on the SAT, while maintaining a rigorous course-load of Honors and AP classes. My primary goals for the upcoming track season are to run a 4:14 1600m and a 9:10 3200m. 

 Throughout my life, I have been a hard-working and disciplined multisport athlete that my teammates and coaches turn to as a leader. At HPHS, I was voted Most Promising by my team during both my freshman cross country and track seasons, and MVP in my sophomore and junior cross country seasons. I was also a co-captain of my club soccer team, which won the 2021 Illinois State Cup en route to becoming a Regional Semifinalist. We played at Nationals in July 2022, after which I retired from soccer to focus 100% of my training on running. As someone who thrives in a team setting, I am excited to bring my leadership qualities and love of sport to the collegiate level, not only to improve myself but also to elevate those around me. When I am not training or studying I enjoy a variety of extracurricular activities including: 
– Math Team – I am on the Exec Board and helped lead the team to a Division Championship and state qualifying season 
– Choir – I am on the Exec Board and am also the Social Media Chairman – I help lead the group and promote our program at school and in the community 
– Madrigals – I participate in our after school A Cappella group 
– HP Believers – I help coach athletes with disabilities in my high school’s Special Olympics program

If you asked me for one thing that differentiates me from other athletes, I would tell you I truly learn from every experience. This mindset enables me to remain calm when faced with disappointment, and humble when I find success. Through all of the ups and downs I encounter in the sport of running, I attempt to attack each day with a smile and a positive attitude. Whether it’s my training, racing, academics, or extracurriculars, I aim to challenge my abilities each day in order to better myself.
