Hi! My name is Sophia Goluba and I am a senior at Barrington High school in Barrington Illinois. I am a 100m and 200m sprinter. This past season I ran my PR in the 100m with a 12.43 at the Mid-Suburban League Girls Conference Championship. In addition, I qualified for state in the 4×100 and 4×200 as the lead runner. Over the summer, I ran a PR in the 200m with a 26.35 at the USATF Illinois Association Junior Olympic Championships. Additionally, I helped my club team qualify for USATF Nationals Junior Olympic Championships as the lead runner in the 4×100. We ended up placing 11th. My goals for the upcoming season are to run sub 12 in the 100m and low 25 in the 200m. 

I started competitive sports as a gymnast at a young age and competed at the State and Regional level for 10 years. These experiences taught me discipline, commitment, and the importance of working with a team. After coming back from a gymnastics  injury, I started track in 7th grade and qualified at the state level. In addition, I started  Crossfit training, where I competed and placed 3rd world-wide in the Crossfit Open. Covid didn’t allow track to take place during my eighth grade, but I continued track my freshman  year and competed Varsity as a sprinter.  During the fall of my junior year, I started training with TNT and by summer I qualified for regionals and nationals. I have always felt the desire to compete at a high level, while knowing the importance of maintaining good grades and being involved in activities within my school. I enjoy working hard physically and mentally. This year, I was chosen by my coaches to be on the Athletic Leadership Council at my high school. In addition, I am involved in other leadership clubs which give me the opportunity to show my leadership skills while being part of a group. 

I am excited to have the opportunity to continue my training and improve my times throughout this year. I am looking forward to seeing where all of my training and hard work in track and in the classroom will take me. For more information, please email me at sophiagoluba2024@gmail.com.
