My name is Sydney Cangilla.  I am a 2020 high jumper from Plainfield North High School in Plainfield, Illinois.  This spring, I have increased my PR by three inches becoming the first female in seven years from Plainfield North to go to state in high jump.  At state, I qualified for finals with my jump of 5’3”.  I am a two-time all-conference varsity high jumper and placed second in sectionals.  As a student, I carry a 4.5 GPA and I am a proud member of the National Honors Society.  My current athletic goal is to clear 5’5” this summer!

Many people think track and field is an individual sport and although I compete as an individual, I love being part of the team.  Having a great group of girls as teammates is important.  My current high school team is exactly that.  We have become a family. That is what I am looking for.  Jumping high and getting points in my event is the best way for me to contribute to the team. But I also know that I can help my teammates do their best by being encouraging and supportive.  Those traits led me to be selected as captain of the track team this past season.  I was also the captain of my fall sport – Poms.  Additionally, I am in concert choir and have performed in my school’s musicals for the past three years.  During the last two years, I was chosen to be part of a leadership group called Northside Crew, which is a group of upperclassmen that help mentor and guide incoming students. 

I’m a hard-working, well-rounded person.  As a student, I carry a 4.5 GPA while being a multi-sport varsity athlete.  As an athlete, I’m a competitor and a reliable teammate.  As a friend, sister, and daughter, I am responsible and loyal.  I welcome the opportunity to prove my worth.  I look forward to speaking with you and thank you for your consideration.
