Ben Meyer

2027 Track Athlete from Bloomington Central Catholic HS

My name is Ben Meyer, and I attend Bloomington Central Catholic in Bloomington, Illinois, where I will graduate in the class of 2027. I am 5’11” and weigh 137 lbs, which allows me to efficiently use my body to move at high speeds. I have trained as an 800m runner, which has allowed me to develop as a middle distance/sprinter. This year I got a best time of 49.29 in the 400, and 7th in the IHSA 2A 400 finals. I also ran a 22.42 in the 200, and a 1:58.76 in the 800. My goals for next year include breaking 22 in the 200, running below a 48.0 in the 400, and getting my 800 at or under 1:55. I also led our 4×400 relay early in the season to a school record of 3:23, as the first leg and fastest runner. This year at our conference meet, I won the 400m dash. I also placed second and broke the school record in the 200m while running it for the second time of the season.  I placed 4th in both the 100m and 4×100. These performances were achieved with minimal sprint and block training, both of which I plan to improve this offseason. While attaining these times and becoming an all-state runner, I maintained a 4.3 GPA with 2 AP courses this year. My cumulative GPA now stands at 4.05. I am also taking 4 more AP classes next year. During my high school career, I’ve always made sure to maintain good grades and keep a high focus on academics. This led to me getting a 29 on the ACT. I plan to retake this in July, to further improve my score. I also took the SAT in June, and am hoping for a high score.

My track career and experiences have shaped me into a competitive, hardworking person, and  have taught me how to never lose sight of my goals. I’ve also developed strong bonds with the other members of my team. I love being surrounded by competitive and hardworking people because that makes the sport I love even more fun. I hope to make more friendships and bonds in college athletics, and have them go beyond just sports. I also enjoy being active outside of just track, doing things like soccer, rock climbing, and swimming for fun. I think it is good to be active in other areas outside of running during the offseason, as they can lead to more friendships being formed outside of running and can alleviate stress related to my main sport, track.

I am excited to work extremely hard during the offseason and next year to achieve my goals and make new ones, in both my off and on the track endeavors. I look forward to learning more about your program and school. For more information, please email me at benmeyer2027@gmail.com.
