Sydney Walker
2024 RHP/1B from Joliet Catholic Academy
My name is Sydney Walker, and I am in the class of 2024 at Joliet Catholic Academy in Illinois. I am a team member on both my high school softball team and the Illinois GenuWin Reign 16u travel team. I utilize practice times with both teams as a place to grow my skill set so I can be at my best when it is time to showcase my talents. I am primarily a right-handed pitcher, but also play first baseman. At the plate I bat and bunt left-handed. I am mainly a power-hitter, but I have 2.79 second home-to-first time which allows me to bunt when the need arises. I love to be successful on the field, but I equally love to cheer my teammates on during the good and the bad days. My positive disposition helps me to move past a bad inning on the mound or an unfortunate outing at the plate and finish the game strong.
When I am not on-the-softball field, I like to spend my time participating in activities that keep my body moving. Running and bike riding are two of my favorite modes of transportation when the weather cooperates. The weight room is a place that I have begun to commit to 5 times per week in my offseason. I enjoy weight lifting, plyometric work, and speed training. Setting goals in the gym and working consistently to achieve them aids me in reaping the reward on the field.
Outside of sports, I am musically inclined. I play the acoustic and electric guitar, the piano, and enjoy singing. I have been fortunate enough to be invited to sing the national anthem for the Chicago Bandits softball team multiple times as well as at an NIHL hockey tournament.
While juggling my extra curricular activities, I balance a rigorous school schedule. Throughout my high school career to date, I have taken all of the honors and AP courses that Morris Community High School offers. My cumulative GPA is 5.571 out of 5.0.
In college,I am looking to study animal science. My long term goal is to become an Equine Veterinarian. I have wanted to be a vet since I was very young, but my passion and love for horses led me to the path of equine study. Being a veterinarian will come with many challenges. I will have to make tough decisions and be able to think on my feet. My softball experiences and personality will help me be successful as a vet. I am always playing out situations that could happen next on the field so that I am never caught off guard. If something unexpected does occur, I make a quick adjustment and trust that my gut instinct is right. I pride myself on my knowledge of the game and that helps me to not second guess my decisions. With my vast knowledge as an athlete and as a student, I believe I would make a positive impact on your athletic and academic programs.
